SouthXSouth , a magazine promoting nearly 100 small South Sydney businesses to over 40,000 of its residents has won the 2016 Sydney City Regional Business Awards.
This magazine published by the South Sydney Business Chamber (SSBC) started with an aim to uncover the hidden and wonderful aspects of the effervescent South Sydney region. Once with not a single shopping centre in its vicinity, South Sydney now is a major hub for creative industries, cultural activities and businesses of every flavour.
Magazine Editor, Karen Levin, said SouthXSouth is all about telling the stories behind businesses and helping residents understand who their locals are.
“We felt the need for a magazine to uncover the hidden qualities of our businesses that were not currently being highlighted,” Ms Levin said.
Foremost, the magazine focused on being addictively readable, full of irresistibly interesting stories drawn from the local community. The run on effect was increased exposure and enhancement of local enterprise through increased public awareness.
A recent profile article in SouthXSouth about a local massage therapist using traditional Aboriginal methods created a boost in the number of social media followers for the business.
“These stories improve South Sydney’s business economy by encouraging business growth and helping Southsiders find local clothing shops, food stores, pet clinics, and other businesses to serve their lifestyle needs, without having to leave the neighbourhood,”
A total of 9 businesses collected awards in the Sydney City regional awards program, judged and staged by the NSW Business Chamber and sponsored by the City.
The South Sydney Business Chamber will join an impressive list of Sydney-based businesses competing with businesses from across the state for top honours at the 2016 NSW Business Chamber Business Awards on 25 November.
The City is a proud sponsor of the state-wide Excellence in Small Business category award, and has recently boosted its sponsorship of the NSW Business Chamber Business Awards to create an expanded regional awards program.
The expansion will allow all local businesses from 2017 to enter the Sydney City Regional Business Awards whether or not they are members of a local chamber.
The Sydney City Regional Business Awards are held each year, with applications for the 2017 Awards opening in May and the finalists announced in July.
